Pigs in the Fields Don’t Stand a Chance - Introducing Agrology’s New Pig Cages

Caleb Webster of Agrology installing a pig cage in a Central Coast field.

The first time an Agrology system went down, we discovered that the cause was wild pig damage. Any farmer will tell you that wild pigs are a HUGE issue. Running at night, wild pigs tear through land, dislodging soil, and trampling everything in their path (including our devices).

After installing several Agrology devices in the vineyards of a Central Coast winery, we quickly uncovered a pig problem. Within days many of the devices were trampled and destroyed. Luckily for our customer, Agrology devices are rugged and we offer a subscription model (i.e. we replace devices for free which is much more cost effective than buying expensive devices growers have to pay to replace).

We continued to reinstall the devices but we knew their days were limited. Yet, our field team refused to be beaten by these unruly swine. Agrology field tech, Caleb Webster, took on a project to design the first-ever Agrology pig cages. The result is awesome.

Caleb designed a model of the Agrology pig cage in his CAD software. He then laser cut steel plates and had them welded. Caleb crafted something sturdy and even remembered our branding (marketing was happy!) The cages are now installed in customers’ vineyards and will protect our sensors as we sleep. In the spirit of making them functional for growers, these pig cages not only look great but they stack well for transport. They are easy to carry, with plenty of room for hands with gloves.

For growers who are worried about wild animals or tractors destroying their in-field technology, we have your back. And, we now share your strong dislike of wild pigs.
